Artist Quarter

Artist Quarter
La Plazuela del Torno was remodeled in 1941 and retains a strong colonial style. It owes its name to the spinning wheels that ran here in antiquity. It is a picturesque corner with a Baroque fountain adorned with sculptures where you can give a great ride visiting the workshops of painters and artists working in the public eye . Occasionally , concerts and plays are performed outdoors .
It emerged in 1941 as an idea of the teacher Jose Marquez Figueroa, master class outdoor landscape in the Old Academy of Fine Arts, who comes with his students to this area. Being there I had the idea that there were different accessories , they were used as studios for artists. And so they came with the governor Gonzalo Bautista Castillo and he gave them space for alumni of the Academy. So many artists who gradually began to gather , forcing the then governor Rafael Avila Camacho to grant the square known as the lathe.
The Plazuela del Torno is a colonial promenade which integrates Baroque influences in its architecture. It consists of 45 studies. In the square is a fountain and monuments in bronze José Márquez Figueroa, oneof the main promoters of the neighborhood of the artist; Rafael Hernández and Bernardo San Cristobal, authors of the famous song "which chula es Puebla, also José Recek poblanos poets Saade and María Sánchez Robredo."
